In all nose surgeries the objective is the same?

At what age to have surgery?

Alterations in the structure of the nose that cause great difficulty in breathing can be corrected at any age; however, external aesthetic changes are not corrected before 15 years of age in women and 17 years of age on average in men.

What is the function of the nose?

The nostrils are the entrance of the inspired air which is filtered, humidified and heated to go to the lungs. Its olfactory function allows us to differentiate approximately two hundred different smells in the atmosphere. The nose intervenes in the timbre of the voice due to the resonance chambers.

What causes nasal obstruction?

The most frequent causes are inflammatory: allergy disorders, viral or bacterial infections such as Rhinitis and Sinusitis.
Nasal obstruction on one side only and that has been present for a long time (chronic) may be caused by alterations in the structure of the nose such as a deviated septum, enlarged turbinates or tumors. If the obstruction also has a foul-smelling discharge in children, it is necessary to check if there is a foreign body (pieces of paper, eraser, seeds).

Other causes of nasal obstruction

Until adolescence, nasal obstruction can occur, in addition to other causes, due to excessive growth of the adenoids (adenoid hypertrophy). In most people the obstruction is caused by overgrowth of turbinates, deviation or loss of support of the nose or polyp-like lesions.
