What is Rhinoplasty?
The aesthetic nose surgery achieves naturalness and harmony in the patient’s face obtaining a better appearance. In addition to beauty (aesthetics), this surgery takes into account the functionality of the nose which allows us to perform proper breathing, essential for our quality of life.
Is the objective of all nose jobs the same?
Both in the functional part (deviated septum, large turbinates) and in the aesthetic part (rhinoplasty), only what is altered or what is to be modified by means of special techniques that take care of the tissues is specifically intervened, each patient being a unique case.
At what age to have surgery?
Alterations in the structure of the nose that cause great difficulty in breathing can be corrected at any age; however, external aesthetic changes are not corrected before 15 years of age in women and 17 years of age on average in men.
What is the function of the nose?
The nostrils are the entrance of inspired air that is filtered, humidified and heated to go to the lungs. Its olfactory function allows us to differentiate approximately two hundred different smells in the atmosphere. The nose is involved in the timbre of the voice due to the resonance chambers.

If the obstruction also has a foul-smelling discharge in children, it is necessary to check if there is a foreign body (pieces of paper, eraser, seeds).
Other causes of nasal obstruction
Until adolescence, nasal obstruction can occur, in addition to other causes, due to excessive growth of the adenoids (adenoid hypertrophy). In most people the obstruction is caused by excessive growth of turbinates, deviation or loss of support of the nose or polyp-like lesions.
Is treatment important to combat nasal obstruction?
In children it is essential to correct it in order to normalize the functioning of the nose and perform proper breathing; this allows the normal growth of the structures of the face and mouth, without altering the functioning of the teeth and organs that allow the proper pronunciation of words. In all patients, the treatment of nasal obstruction affects their quality of life and prevents respiratory, dental and speech complications…
